I read – Bring a Book with You – Korce

As part of Activity 5.1, “I Read – Bring a Book with You,” an event was organized on October 25, 2024, at “Platon” High School in Korçë, Albania. The focus of the activity was on the reading of poems brought by students from this school in both Greek and Albanian, highlighting the rich literary traditions of both cultures.
Greek poetry was represented by celebrated authors such as Giorgos Seferis and Odysseas Elytis, whose works explore profound themes of love, nature, and the human experience. These selections allowed students to connect with the deep cultural heritage of Greek literature, adding an artistic and introspective dimension to the event. On the Albanian side, poems from Skender Rusi’s collection “Gradually I Become Departure” were recited. These poems, known for their emotional depth and evocative imagery, brought a unique perspective to the readings, emphasizing themes of identity, longing, and reflection.
The event aimed to demonstrate the unifying power of literature by bringing together elements of two distinct yet interconnected cultures. Students engaged in recitations that revealed shared values and universal emotions, showcasing how poetry can serve as a bridge across cultural boundaries. The activity emphasized the possibility of finding a common spiritual thread in the Balkans, highlighting the region’s capacity for cultural harmony despite its historical complexities. The event transmitted an atmosphere of mutual appreciation and respect, where students could not only explore their own literary traditions but also discover and reflect on the richness of their neighbors’ cultural expressions. This exchange underscored the importance of recognizing shared humanity through art and literature, particularly in a region as diverse as the Balkans.
