Artistic Lab Resen – Understanding Narrative Techniques / Book Discussion

On November 1, 2024, the activity “Artistic Lab Resen: Understanding Narrative Techniques / Book Discussion” took place in Resen, North Macedonia, bringing together a diverse group of participants. In attendance were youth, students, and teachers from the city’s “Car Samoil” High School, representatives of the local government in Resen, and lecturers from Fan S. Noli University in Korçë, Albania, who were invited as special guests. The meeting focused on the importance of literature and storytelling as powerful tools for cultural interaction and personal development. The event began with a warm welcome and registration of participants by the organizers. This initial segment allowed attendees to gather and connect in a collegial and inviting atmosphere.
The formal session commenced with opening remarks delivered by representatives from the Literary and Cultural Activism Association and the Mayor of Resen. These speeches highlighted the shared goals of the project, emphasizing the vital role of youth engagement in literary activities to foster intercultural understanding and collaboration across communities.
A significant part of the event was the discussion led by Mr. Beqir Potka, the special guest and protagonist of the book “American Dream.” Mr. Potka shared his personal journey, offering reflections on his life experiences and elaborating on the narrative techniques used in the book. He explored how these techniques shaped the storytelling, enabling the audience to better understand the emotional and cultural layers within the narrative.

Following this, participants engaged in an interactive discussion and book readings. Students from “Car Samoil” High School shared their reflections on the book, posed insightful questions to Mr. Potka, and discussed the core messages of “American Dream.” Selected excerpts from the book were read in English and Macedonian, providing an opportunity for deeper intercultural engagement and mutual understanding among attendees.
The event concluded with closing remarks, where participants reflected on the broader implications of literature and storytelling. The speakers emphasized their transformative power in inspiring young people to develop empathy, broaden their perspectives, and contribute to building a more conscious and interconnected society. This activity successfully demonstrated how literature can serve as a bridge between cultures, fostering meaningful connections and encouraging youth to engage with diverse narratives and ideas.
