Beyond Boundaries: Empowering Youth through Reading and Literature

I read – Bring a Book with You – Resen

As part of Activity 5, “I Read – Bring a Book with You,” an event was organized on October 22, 2024, at “Car Samoil” High School in Resen, North Macedonia. The meeting brought together students who had prepared poems in both Albanian and Macedonian to recite, aiming to promote cultural unity through literature. The event featured poetry recitations from notable Macedonian poets such as Koco Racin and Blaze Koneski, whose works reflect themes of nature, human connection, and national identity. These selections resonated deeply with the Macedonian participants, bringing the literary richness of their heritage into the spotlight. Albanian students, in turn, recited works from renowned poets such as Dritëro Agolli and Naim Frashëri, who are celebrated for their explorations of themes like peace, love, and the beauty of Albanian nature and culture.

The recitations created a vibrant literary atmosphere where students from the Albanian minority and Macedonian majority interpreted poems centered on universal themes such as peace, love, life, and nature. Through their performances, the participants brought a sense of harmony and creativity to the event, showcasing the unifying power of literature across languages and cultures. The setting resonated with mutual respect and appreciation, as students used the opportunity not only to express themselves artistically but also to engage with the literary traditions of their peers. The diverse collection of poetry recited during the event served as a bridge between the cultures, fostering a spirit of understanding and collaboration among the young participants. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Literary and Cultural Activism Association presented a donation of books to the school library, enriching its collection and supporting ongoing literary engagement for the students.
